"Cat-Eye" Eyeliner: Easier Than It Looks!

Bookmark and Share
'Cat-eye' style eyeliner has become huge, and so many people seem to be intimidated by it. But if you break it down and take your time, it's actually really easy! The upwards flick at the end of the eye really creates a pretty aesthetic when done properly. And the best thing about creating a cat-eye is that you can tone it down for an everyday look, or really go glam and make it super dramatic for a special event or maybe a dimly-lit date night ;)

I'm going to be doing an "in-between" cat-eye. This is low-key enough for daytime but will still be noticeable. Be careful...once you get a good handle on how to create this look, you won't be going back to plain old eyeliner for your top lid!

The first thing you want to do is make sure your brows are in order. This is so important when it comes to this look because you will use the edge of your brow to gauge where to flick the eyeliner. I will get into how to create a perfect brow in a later post but for now just make sure the end of your brow has a nice crisp, tapered line.

Okay, so here's the number one fail-proof way to figure out where you want that 'flick upwards' on the edge of your eye to be. Take your liquid eyeliner pen (I really like NYX Two Timer in Jet Black. It's double-ended with a Kohl pencil on the other end for lining your bottom eye) and set it on the side of your nose. Line up the other end to the edge of your brow.

Now let the pen come down to make a small marking. There you go! You're halfway there.

Now close your eye and using that marker, flick upwards. The end should be tapered off. It's okay if it takes a few tries. Another great tip is to have a bunch of cotton swabs ready to erase any mistakes and try, try again.

Next, connect a line from your inner eyelid to about halfway up the flick.

Now all you have to do is fill in along your eye, and you're done!

Add two coats of mascara, a bit of brown eyeshadow in your crease, and you're ready to go.

If you're looking for some inspiration, google images of Brigitte Bardot. She's definitely a style inspiration for me and embodies the glamour of a cat-eye. Me-OW! ;) Cheers! Xx
